More Small
Businesses Employing 5-19 Staff Last Longer
With 2.011m
businesses registered in Australia
(ABS2007/81650) we see that 58.3% don't employ
any staff, and of those that do employ, 62.8% retain 1-4
staff and 27.2% retain 5-19 staff.
Painfully,
these 2007 ABS statistics show 53.0% of businesses
with NO employees fail within 4 years; while only
21.6% businesses (with 1-4 staff) failed and 15.1%
businesses (with 5-19 staff) failed within 4 years!
Excitingly,
78.4% of small businesses with 1-4 staff survived
4 years or more and succeeded; and it shows that success
increased even further for the 84.9% of business owners
who had 5-19 employees and survived and succeeded.
So, with
95.82% of employing businesses had
less than 20 staff, and with each small business
directly providing for the business owner, the
employees and their immediate families, attention is
required to improve security, survival and success
in small business.
If we agree
that the average family has 2 adults + ½ child… then,
with the business owner plus (say) 5 employees – that's
a total average of 15 souls to be supported per
business!
And that's a
huge responsibility for each small business
owner to take on… an average of 15 souls directly
reliant on each small business owner's knowledge
and skills to succeed!
